How to add a payer company to an opportunity so invoices belonging to a separate billing party surface alongside the client's invoices.
Sometimes the company receiving your services is not the one paying the bills. A parent company might cover a subsidiary's fees, an insurer might pay a claimant's professional costs, or a guarantor might settle a related entity's invoice. TrustPager calls this a payer company — a billing party that is separate from the client shown on the opportunity.
Adding a payer does not change the opportunity's client. It simply tells TrustPager to also surface invoices belonging to that payer company on this matter, so your billing history stays complete in one place.
Common in advisory, insolvency, legal, and professional-services work where a solvent related party pays another entity's fees. For example:
You need the invoices:write scope to manage payer companies. The Admin and Editor preset roles include it by default.
You can add more than one payer company if needed. Remove one at any time using the remove icon next to its name.
If an invoice was raised before you set up the payer link — or was created directly in Xero rather than from TrustPager — you can pin it manually:
A manually pinned invoice is locked to that one opportunity. It will not be automatically matched to other opportunities that happen to share the same payer company.
Once a payer company is linked, TrustPager merges its invoices into the opportunity's Invoices card alongside the client's invoices. You can tell them apart by the company name shown on each invoice row. The client shown at the top of the opportunity does not change.
Payment status sync works the same way regardless of which company is billed: Xero's PAID status on a payer invoice flows back to the opportunity on your next sync.
The Payer companies section sits inside the Invoices card and is gated by the same invoice scopes:
invoices:read — can see payer companies and their invoices on the opportunity.invoices:write — can add and remove payer companies, and assign invoices manually.Manage role scopes at https://app.trustpager.com/settings/permissions.
I can't see the Payer companies section. Your role needs the invoices:read scope. Ask a workspace admin to check your permissions at https://app.trustpager.com/settings/permissions.
A payer invoice is not appearing on the opportunity. Confirm the payer company is listed in the Invoices card's Payer companies section. If the invoice was raised in Xero before the link was set up, use the Assign opportunity flow on the company's record to pin it manually.
An invoice I pinned is on the wrong opportunity. A manually pinned invoice is locked to the single opportunity you assigned it to; it will not auto-appear on other matters that share the same payer company. To move it, open the invoice on the payer company's record, click Assign opportunity, and choose the correct opportunity.
I can't find the payer company in the search. The company must exist in TrustPager first. Add it at https://app.trustpager.com/crm/companies, then return to the opportunity and add it as a payer.
