Collect Information from Signers

How to use Signer Input fields, including checkbox lists, to collect information from signers as part of e-signing in TrustPager.

Signer Input fields let you collect information from signers as part of the e-signing flow: things like a job title, a date, a start address, a company ACN, or which optional extras they want. The signer fills in the fields directly on the signing page, and the answers are baked into the final sealed PDF.

Add a Signer Input section

Open your document in the builder at https://app.trustpager.com/documents. In the section panel on the right, click Signer Input (type "signer" or "checkbox" in the Search sections box at the top to find it fast). Give the section a label and choose the field type: Single line text, Multi-line text, Date, Number or Checkbox list. Set Required if the signer must answer before they can sign.

The builder shows the field in the document preview with its label, so you can see exactly what the signer will encounter in context.

Checkbox lists: let the signer tick optional extras

Choose Checkbox list as the field type to give the signer a list of options they can tick, for example optional add-on services under the package on a proposal. Under Checkbox options, type each option and use + Add Option for more. The signer can tick any of them. With Required set, they must tick at least one.

The sealed PDF shows every option with a ticked or empty box, so the signed record is clear about what was chosen and what was not.

The Signature Block requirement

Important: Every document with a Signer Input section must also contain a Signature Block. The builder will prevent sending until one is present: you'll see an amber banner above the canvas while editing, and a toast ("Add a Signature Block before sending") if you try to send early. This is by design: signer input fields are collected during e-signing, and without a Signature Block there's no signing event to attach them to.

What the signer sees

When the signer opens their secure link, the form panel below the document shows each input field. Required fields are marked clearly, and the signer can't sign until they're filled in. Checkbox lists appear as one tick box per option, and the document preview updates to show their ticks as they go. Clicking a field's box in the document preview scrolls straight to that field in the form panel, which is useful on mobile.

After signing

Once the signer submits, their answers are embedded into the sealed PDF as real, selectable text, and checkbox lists show each option ticked or empty. The final PDF is stored on the opportunity, and the answers are available on the signing envelope under input_values (keyed by section ID).

Automations that use the Signature Completed trigger also receive each signer's answers, keyed by the field's label. A checkbox list reads as the ticked options separated by commas (for example "Payroll, BAS lodgement"), so a follow-up automation can act on what the signer chose. Build automations at https://app.trustpager.com/auto/automations.

Multi-signer assignment

By default, a Signer Input section is filled by the primary signer. If you're collecting input from a specific signer in a multi-signer document, set the Signer email on the section to that signer's email address. Leave it blank and it defaults to the primary signer.

API

You can add a Signer Input section programmatically using add_document_section with type: "signer-input". For a checkbox list, set fieldType: "checkbox_list" and pass the choices as options. See the API reference for the full section schema.
