How TrustPager works out an opportunity's value from its products, how to set it by hand instead, and how opportunities created by automations and forms keep the value they were given.
Every opportunity has a value: the figure your pipeline totals, reports, quotes and automations read. TrustPager can work that value out for you from the opportunity's products, or you can set it yourself. This article explains how each works and how to switch between them.
When an opportunity's value is on Auto, it always equals the total of its product lines: each line's quantity, times its price, less any discount. If a line has a price override, the override is used instead of the catalogue price.
The value updates the moment a line changes, whoever or whatever changed it: you on the opportunity page, a teammate in the Document Builder, an automation step, a form or webhook, the Proposal Builder, or an AI agent using the API. You never need to save the opportunity separately.
Open any opportunity from https://app.trustpager.com/crm/opportunities and you'll see a small Auto label next to the value at the top. The Products Total at the bottom of the Products card is the same figure.
When the value is on Manual, it stays exactly as set, and adding, removing or re-pricing products never changes it. Use this when the agreed figure differs from the line items, for example a negotiated package price.
An automation, form or webhook can create an opportunity with its own value, such as the amount a customer just paid, and attach products at the same time. If that value doesn't match the products' total, the opportunity starts on Manual, so the value it was given is kept. If the two match, it starts on Auto as normal.
Workspace admins can choose whether new opportunities start on Auto or Manual with the Opportunity Value Calculations setting at https://app.trustpager.com/settings/crm. Each opportunity can still be switched individually afterwards.
The value doesn't match the products. Check the label next to the value. If it says Manual, the value is locked on purpose; click set to auto to recalculate it from the products. If it says Auto, change or re-save any product line and the value will catch up.
An automation reads the wrong amount. Automations read the opportunity's value. If it should come from the products, make sure the opportunity is on Auto.
Exact field names for the API (value and value_is_manual) are listed at https://docs.trustpager.com/reference#opportunities.
